Final Fantasy 8 Emulator Games
I've been playing FF8 on ePSXe 1.7.0 for a few days now. It's.. alright. But the sound occasionally cuts out - seemingly at random, at any and all times - and the battle transitions often look extremely buggy and unpleasant for about 2 or 3 seconds.
I thought it would be as easy as looking it up on Google to see what settings I should be using. Apparently, not only are there a LOT more versions for this one emulator then there were 3 years ago, there's also other emulators with their own pros and cons. I don't think Google has ever been less helpful for me in my life then in regards to this query, and that's saying something, considering how bad I am with it usually.
I'm not necessarily looking to emulate things 1:1. In fact, I'm almost certain my 7-year-old computer would struggle if I tried. I just want things to work without any major graphical or audio glitches. A little fuzziness here and there is alright, but huge garbled graphics or total audio cutouts are what I have right now, and I'd prefer them to be gone.
My specs, according to System Requirements Lab:
Processor
Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU 530 @ 2.93GHz
Video Card
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450
RAM
6.0 GB
Operating System
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit
I figure the basics will probably be enough, but let me know if you want the stuff listed under Advanced as well. I don't know enough about this stuff to know what's relevant, if anything.
I'm not feeling especially loyal to ePSXe by any means, but I've been playing for about 7 hours, so, if I need to switch to another emulator, I'd appreciate a means to preserve my save data as well. 7 hours is just enough that I could redo it if I needed to, but I'd rather not.
EDIT: EVERYTHING IS FIXED. If you have been having my problems, here's the setup I'm using. The emulator is ePSXe 1.7.0, I don't know if this will work with any other version.

Just about problem I was having has cleared up. The graphics seem to be completely flawless so far, and the sound is good too. There's a little jankiness in some of the more intense sounds, like limit breaks, but I tried a number of different sound plugins and settings, and this was the best it ever got. If anyone wants to bother screwing around with it some more, and they find something that works absolutely PERFECT, I'd appreciate hearing about it, but I've been at this for three days. I'm okay with calling it quite here
EDIT2: Added direct links to all the stuff for easy downloading.
EDIT3: One last fix. See final post for details, or just don't. Who cares?
